Police began arresting demonstrators outside the US embassy in Battersea, south London, after a gathering of more than 100 people opposed to the ban on Palestine Action. The Guardian reported that a Metropolitan Police commander said the crowd was “essentially meeting to purposefully commit a crime”. The protest was the first mass demonstration under Andy Burnham’s premiership and participants held signs that read, “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action.” Police said the arrests were part of the response to the proscription of the activist group.
