A sudden cold blast has brought snow to several alpine resorts in southeastern Australia, The Guardian reported.

Thredbo, Perisher and Mount Hotham all recorded snowfall, and snow also fell on kunanyi/Mount Wellington in Tasmania. The Guardian said the snow fell across parts of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania as temperatures plummeted during what is normally spring weather.

The weather event is described as unseasonal, with the cold blast sweeping through the region and producing snowfall in areas that rarely see it at this time of year.

Why it matters

The snowfall shows an unusual shift in weather patterns for the region during spring.
